Patient Information Consent For Tattoo Treatment or Brown Spot Reduction (back to top)
Depositing various colored pigments under the skin surface makes a tattoo. Many methods have been tried to remove tattoos and pigmented lesions including surgical excision, use of various acids and bleaching agents, destruction by heat or cold, over tattooing with flesh-colored pigment, sanding or dermabrading and various lasers.

Laser Type (back to top)
The Q-Switched (Nd:YAG, Alexandrite, Ruby) laser is the latest in a new class of state-of-the-art laser technology specifically designed for the treatment of pigmented lesions and tattoos. The following factors should be considered in your decision to undergo treatment.

Will All My Pigmentation Be Removed? (back to top)
It may not be possible to remove 100% of your tattoo/pigmented lesion. Certain pigments are especially "stubborn" and may require multiple treatments for particle lightening or use of an alternative laser.

How Many Sessions will be Necessary? (back to top)
A series of treatments may be required averaging four to six sessions for amateur tattoos or brown spots and six to eight sessions for professional tattoos. There may be a crust or scab on the skin requiring special care with topical antibiotic ointment, bandages, and limitation of activity in some cases for a period of 1 or 2 weeks following treatment.

What are the some of the other considerations of Laser Tattoo Removal? (back to top)
Paradoxical darkening can occur in some facial cosmetic tattoos (eyeliner, lip-liner) and occasionally in some colored tattoos. Skin hyper-pigmentation (brownish or dark discoloration) or hypo-pigmentation (lightening of the skin) may occur. Indention or depression of the skin may occur. Skin texture change or scarring may occur.
